Why moms make the best entrepreneurs

Moms make the very best entrepreneurs. In fact, I’m more likely to choose to do business with a mom-owned business, solely because it’s mom-owned.

To be honest, mothers possess a unique set of skills and qualities that make them natural-born business leaders. From our unparalleled work ethic to our innate ability to juggle literally everything that life throws at us, moms are hardwired to THRIVE.

Work Life Balance

Work life balance in the corporate space or service industry are next to impossible. That’s why more and more women are opting out altogether, so they can be more present for their kids’ lives. I can’t tell you how many amazing women I know who run custom cake businesses out of their homes, or who take on contract or freelance gigs that they can do from home while their babies are napping. I myself sold hot cocoa bombs and chocolate covered strawberries during my mat leave to bring in a little extra money.

Moms are more inclined to start their own businesses precisely because it offers them greater control over their schedules. With the flexibility to set their own hours and work from home if needed, entrepreneurial moms can prioritize their families while pursuing their professional goals. In fact, close to one in three officers who lead the day-to-day operations of corporations in Canada were women in 2020, up from 29.2% in 2017. More and more women are opting out of traditional employment altogether, recognizing that entrepreneurship offers them the autonomy and flexibility they crave to be present for their kids while pursuing their passions.

Moms Know How to Get Stuff Done

Every mom I know is a DOER. Moms are the ultimate multitaskers, adept at managing their households, overseeing extracurricular activities, and staying organized amidst the chaos of daily life. From meal planning to coordinating schedules, moms are natural-born leaders who excel at getting things done. It's no wonder that nearly one in five directors of Canadian corporations were women in 2020, up from 17.9% in 2017. Moms bring their unparalleled project management skills and dedication to their entrepreneurial ventures, leveraging their expertise to navigate the complexities of running a successful business.

Moms Are the Magic Makers

Think back to your childhood, and every magical memory that you have. Christomas mornings. Birthday parties. Sunday mornings at the park. I’m willing to bet that almost every magical memory from your childhood was thanks to the magic touch of a mom. Moms are the heart and soul of the family, bringing passion, creativity, and a touch of magic into everything they do. This same spirit of magic-making permeates their entrepreneurial endeavors, infusing their businesses with warmth, authenticity, and a sense of wonder. If you're in need of a little magic in your life, look no further than a mom-owned business, where you'll find passion, dedication, and a sprinkle of fairy dust in every product or service.

Mothers are natural-born leaders, primed to start their own businesses. From our unwavering dedication, to our unparalleled ability to juggle multiple roles, moms are perfectly poised to find success in the business world. To the moms who are out there hustling, making it work for their families—I see you. Happy Mother's Day to all the magic makers out there.
